Lara Wall Injured, Out of FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers
Fullback Lara Wall of the Football Ferns will miss the upcoming qualifiers for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 due to a torn calf muscle. The Wellington Phoenix announced the injury following their match on Sunday, where they suffered a 2-1 defeat against the Central Coast Mariners. Medical assessments indicate that Wall’s recovery could sideline her for the remainder of the A-League season.
This latest setback marks a significant disappointment for Wall, who was selected to represent the Football Ferns for the first time in October 2022. She stepped in as a replacement for her clubmate CJ Bott, who withdrew from the squad due to injury. In her initial appearances, Wall played as a substitute in two challenging matches, including a 6-0 loss to the United States and a 2-0 defeat against Australia.
The Football Ferns are set to face tough competition in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, and Wall’s absence will be felt as the team aims to solidify its position for the global tournament. Coach Jitka Klimková now faces the challenge of adjusting the squad to compensate for Wall’s injury. The squad depth will be tested as they prepare for critical matches that could determine their fate in the qualifiers.
As the team gears up for this crucial stage, the impact of Wall’s injury underscores the physical demands of professional football, especially in high-stakes competitions. The Wellington Phoenix will continue to monitor her recovery, hoping for a swift return to the field.
