Mangawhai Football Club is actively seeking a new coach and players for its men’s team as it prepares for the upcoming season in the Northland First Division. Following a successful promotion after winning the Second Division in 2024, the team is aiming to improve upon its fifth-place finish from last season.

Former coach and team captain Nelson Shaw emphasizes the importance of finding a coach with the right experience. He believes that the right leadership could propel Mangawhai into the top three this season. “We’re looking for someone who has played or coached before at a reasonable level, who has the time to commit to one or two training sessions a week, plus matches,” Shaw stated.

The club recognizes that building a cohesive team is crucial for success. According to Shaw, the new coach should focus on developing individual players while fostering strong teamwork. This dual focus is essential for achieving their competitive goals in the league.

Player registrations are anticipated to open in mid-February, with training sessions scheduled to commence in early March. Last year, the registration fee was $240, which covered the costs for 16 matches as well as the club’s operational expenses. Players will receive a complete playing kit, including shorts and shirts, but must provide their own black socks.

The season is likely to kick off in late April or May, and the club is eager to build a robust squad capable of making a significant impact in the league. As the search for a new coach and players continues, the community remains hopeful for an exciting season ahead.
