Scott Barrett Returns as All Blacks Prepare for England Clash
The All Blacks will welcome back their captain, Scott Barrett, for a highly anticipated match against England at Twickenham on November 5, 2023. Barrett, who sustained a laceration to his leg during the team’s victory over Ireland in Chicago, has been cleared to play in what is deemed the team’s most formidable challenge of the year-end tour.
Barrett’s return necessitates a shift in the squad, with Josh Lord moving to the bench despite his strong performance throughout the tour. Coach Scott Robertson is expected to utilize Lord’s skills, providing him with valuable minutes later in the game. Meanwhile, Sam Darry has been omitted from the matchday squad.
Key Changes to the Forward Pack
In the forward pack, Simon Parker has been selected to fill the blindside position, a decision that aligns with expectations given his physicality. His presence will complement fellow loose forwards Ardie Savea and Peter Lakai, who will also start. Wallace Sititi returns to the bench, and Du’Plessis Kirifi has been left out of the squad altogether.
In the backline, Leicester Fainga’anuku will take the wing position, stepping in for the injured Caleb Clarke. This adjustment allows Billy Proctor to move to centre, while Anton Lienert-Brown will be included on the bench after what was likely a tight selection decision. Notably, Rieko Ioane remains absent from the lineup, and Damian McKenzie retains the number 23 jersey once again, despite competition from Ruben Love.
Continuity in the Front Row
Robertson has opted for consistency in the front row, maintaining the same trio that has seen action in the past four tests. Ethan de Groot and Fletcher Newell will start, facing a crucial scrum battle against the English side. Tamaiti Williams and Pasilio Tosi are set to provide fresh legs in the second half.
The All Blacks will aim to improve discipline after receiving three yellow cards during their recent match against Scotland. With the team’s focus firmly on maintaining player fitness and cohesion, they hope to deliver a strong performance against a formidable opponent.
The England team, captained by Maro Itoje, will present a tough challenge, featuring a blend of experienced players and rising stars. As both teams prepare for kick-off, rugby fans worldwide are eager to see how this match unfolds.
