Barry Manilow Announces Lung Cancer Diagnosis, Plans Surgery
Barry Manilow, the acclaimed entertainer, has announced that he will undergo surgery following a diagnosis of lung cancer. The 82-year-old singer recently experienced complications from bronchitis, prompting further medical evaluation that revealed a “cancerous spot” on his left lung. As a result, he has canceled all upcoming concerts, including performances at the Westgate Las Vegas.
In a heartfelt message shared on Instagram, Manilow explained his recent health struggles. He stated, “As many of you know I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks.” After recovering from bronchitis and returning to the stage, his doctor recommended an MRI to ensure his health was stable. The MRI results led to the discovery of the cancerous spot, which will require surgical intervention.
Manilow expressed gratitude for the early detection of his condition, emphasizing that it was a fortunate outcome. “It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that [it] was found so early. That’s the good news,” he noted. The news of his diagnosis has shocked many fans, who have admired Manilow’s work for decades.
The singer’s medical team has not disclosed specific details regarding the surgery or the timeline for his recovery. Manilow’s career spans over five decades, during which he has sold more than 85 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists in music history.
