Ethereal Artworks Illuminate Fo Guang Yuan Gallery Until November 22
Stunning artworks that transport viewers to imaginary realms are currently on display at the Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery in Flat Bush, east Auckland. The exhibition is part of the second session of the gallery’s 9th Art Salon, showcasing pieces from over 100 artists until November 22, 2023.
The diverse collection features a wide range of mediums, including paintings, ceramics, textiles, wood sculptures, jewelry, and photography. Among the standout contributions is a series by acclaimed artist Vjekoslav Nemesh, whose vibrant pink, purple, blue, and black images evoke a fantastical cosmos beyond Earth. His accompanying biographical statement highlights his “remarkable journey” marked by passion and creative brilliance.
Opening Reception Draws Notable Guests
The exhibition’s opening reception attracted numerous attendees, including police Superintendent Scott Gemmell and Howick ward councillor Bo Burns, along with members of the Howick Local Board. The event was curated by Venerable Abbess Manshin of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple, who expressed her commitment to fostering a welcoming environment for artists and attendees alike.
Participating artist William Robert Boyd shared his personal journey into art during the opening remarks. He recounted how, at the age of 15, he was discouraged from pursuing creativity, but rediscovered his passion at 56. “I thought, ‘I’m going to teach myself how to paint,’ and six months later I sold my first painting,” Boyd said. He emphasized the therapeutic power of art and the sense of community fostered by the exhibition.
Boyd expressed gratitude to Abbess Manshin and her team for their support. “It’s a privilege and a pleasure to be here,” he noted, reflecting the sentiments of many artists involved in the salon.
