Fire Destroys Invercargill Home in Suspicious Blaze

A residential property in Invercargill was severely damaged by a fire deemed “suspicious” on the evening of March 12, 2024. Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after the fire was reported at approximately 10:10 PM. When fire crews from Kingswell and Invercargill reached the location, they encountered a fully involved blaze.

According to a spokesman for Fire and Emergency New Zealand, the fire is believed to have originated in the kitchen at the rear of the property. As the situation escalated, four fire trucks and additional support crews were deployed to manage the incident effectively.

The fire was brought under control and extinguished by 1:00 AM. Despite this, crews returned to the site at 5:00 AM to address a hotspot that had reignited. The spokesman confirmed that due to the circumstances surrounding the fire, it has been classified as suspicious. A fire investigator is expected to visit the site to ascertain the cause of the blaze.
