David Seymour’s Car Involved in Tree Incident in Epsom Car Park
New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister, David Seymour, faced an unexpected incident in an Epsom car park on March 1, 2024, when a large tree fell onto his vehicle. The tree, described as both substantial and leafy, caused significant damage, leading to Seymour sharing a photo of the scene on social media.
In his post, Seymour’s branded car was nearly obscured by the fallen foliage, with his face on the side of the vehicle barely visible through the greenery. The Deputy Prime Minister took the opportunity to inject humor into the situation. “The tree had it in for me,” he quipped, while expressing gratitude that no one was injured in the incident. He also made a light-hearted comment about how the media might portray the event, stating, “Media will probably report ACT Leader destroys nature,” on his Facebook account.
Such incidents are not uncommon, particularly during adverse weather conditions, which can weaken tree structures. Local authorities often urge the public to be cautious in areas with large trees, especially during storms or heavy winds.
While the damage to the vehicle is still being assessed, Seymour’s ability to maintain a sense of humor highlights his approach to public life. As a prominent figure in New Zealand politics, he leads the ACT Party, which has garnered attention for its policies and advocacy. This incident, though unfortunate, has provided a moment of levity amidst the usual seriousness of political discourse.
Overall, the event serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of nature and the importance of safety in public spaces. As investigations into the cause of the tree’s fall proceed, the focus remains on ensuring such incidents are minimized in the future.
