EB Games Moves to Close All Stores in New Zealand
EB Games has announced plans to close all its stores in New Zealand, as detailed in a letter to employees from managing director Shane Stockwell. The proposed decision, which has not yet been finalized, will undergo a consultation process with affected team members before any action is taken.
In his note to staff, Stockwell emphasized that the closure proposal includes both all remaining EB Games stores in New Zealand and the New Zealand Distribution Centre. If the proposal proceeds, it would lead to the disestablishment of all roles within EB Games New Zealand.
The company has expressed its commitment to engaging with employees throughout the consultation process, ensuring they have an opportunity to discuss the implications of the proposed closures. While the letter did not provide specific timelines for the consultation or decision-making process, it marks a significant shift for the retailer, which has been a staple in the gaming community.
EB Games has faced challenges in recent years, reflecting broader trends in the retail sector, particularly in the gaming industry. The rise of digital sales and online gaming has increasingly impacted brick-and-mortar stores, leading many retailers to rethink their operational strategies.
As the situation develops, employees and customers alike await further clarification on the future of EB Games in New Zealand. The proposal, if executed, could reshape the landscape of video game retail in the country, impacting not only the company’s workforce but also its clientele.
More updates will follow as EB Games engages with its team members and navigates this critical juncture in its operations.
