House Fire Disrupts Traffic on SH1 Near Hei Hei, Road Now Clear
A house fire on the outskirts of Christchurch caused significant traffic disruption on State Highway 1 (SH1) this afternoon. The incident occurred near the intersection with Buchanans Rd in the suburb of Hei Hei, leading to the temporary closure of the road.
Emergency services received a report of the blaze on Carmen Rd at approximately 16:25 local time. The New Zealand Transport Agency confirmed the closure of SH1 while emergency responders managed the situation. Police were dispatched to assist with traffic management and ensure the safety of the public.
Motorists were advised to heed the directions of emergency services and, if possible, to avoid the affected area until the situation was resolved. Fortunately, the road has since reopened, allowing traffic to flow smoothly once again.
No injuries or casualties have been reported as a result of the fire, and investigations into the cause are expected to follow. Emergency services are commended for their prompt response, which helped to mitigate further disruption during the incident.
As of now, normal traffic conditions have resumed on SH1, and authorities continue to monitor the area.
