Lightning Strikes, Tree Falls on Auckland Home in Violent Storm
A powerful storm swept through Auckland’s North Shore on March 15, 2024, resulting in a large tree crashing onto a house in Hillcrest after being struck by lightning. Fire and Emergency NZ responded to the incident shortly after receiving an alert at approximately 17:12 local time.
Residents of the affected home were evacuated safely after a significant hole was reported in the roof, causing immediate concern among the occupants. A neighbor recounted the moment, stating that even while wearing headphones, they heard “the loudest bang” they had ever experienced.
