Niamh Fisher-Black Secures Silver at UCI Road World Championships
Nelson cyclist Niamh Fisher-Black has achieved a remarkable second place in the women’s road race at the UCI Road World Championships, held on September 30, 2023, in Kigali, Rwanda. The race, which spanned 164 kilometers through a challenging hilly course, witnessed a surprising victory by Canada’s Magdeleine Vallieres, who secured the gold medal with a stunning performance.
Vallieres, 24, was part of a breakaway group that included Fisher-Black and Spanish cyclist Mavi Garcia as they approached the final stretch of the race. In a decisive move during the last climb, Vallieres launched a powerful attack on the cobbled section of the ascent.
