Search Continues for Missing Hiker in Kahurangi National Park
Police are actively searching for a hiker who went missing in the Kahurangi National Park on New Zealand’s South Island. Graham Garnett, a 66-year-old man, was reported missing after failing to return from his hiking trip in the Baton/Ellis River area on December 30, 2022.
According to Police Search and Rescue Sergeant Jonny Evans, Garnett was expected to complete his hike on the designated date but has not been seen since. The search operation commenced shortly after his expected return, involving extensive efforts by local authorities.
Garnett is described as approximately 177 cm tall, weighing around 100 kg, with grey hair. His experience as a hiker has raised concerns about his well-being, given the challenging terrain and weather conditions in the park.

The area is known for its diverse topography, which includes dense forests, steep ridges, and swift rivers.
