Efforts to locate missing hiker Graham Garnett continue in Kahurangi National Park, located on New Zealand’s South Island. The 66-year-old went tramping in the Baton and Ellis River area and was last seen on December 30, 2022. Since his disappearance, local authorities have mobilized a dedicated search team to find him.

Police Search and Rescue Sergeant Jonny Evans confirmed that Garnett was expected to return from his hike on the specified date but failed to do so, prompting a search operation. The team has been scouring the surrounding areas, utilizing both ground and aerial resources to increase the chances of locating him.

Garnett is described as approximately 177 cm tall and weighing around 100 kg, with grey hair. His family has been notified and is awaiting updates from the authorities. The search efforts are focused on areas where Garnett was known to hike, with search teams navigating challenging terrain in hopes of finding signs of his whereabouts.

The community has rallied to support the search, with volunteers offering their assistance to the police. The ongoing operation emphasizes the risks associated with outdoor activities in remote areas, especially during the summer months when many individuals venture into the wilderness.

As of now, the police have not released any further details regarding the search efforts or any potential leads. Local authorities urge anyone who may have seen Garnett or has information about his last known movements to come forward. The search continues as teams remain committed to bringing him home safely.
