The annual Taihape Shears event will take place at Erewhon Station in the Central North Island on Saturday, following heavy rain that rendered the original venue in Taihape unsuitable. This event is a highlight of the Shearing Sports New Zealand season, drawing approximately 200 entries from skilled shearers and wool handlers.

Erewhon Station, located about 17 kilometers from Taihape on the Napier-Taihape road, is set to host the championships, which feature the final preliminary rounds for two selection series. These series aim to identify New Zealand’s top machine shearers and wool handlers who will compete at the Golden Shears World Championships in Masterton from March 4-7.

Events will commence at 8:00 AM, with a full day of competition planned. Participants and spectators can expect an engaging and action-packed program, showcasing the talents of some of the best in the industry.

The decision to move the event was necessary due to adverse weather conditions impacting the traditional venue. Organizers are optimistic that the change will not affect attendance and that the competition will proceed smoothly, even at the new location.

The Taihape Shears not only serves as a platform for competitors to demonstrate their skills but also fosters community spirit and highlights the importance of the shearing industry in New Zealand. With the event now confirmed, all eyes will be on Erewhon Station this Saturday as participants gear up for a day filled with competition and camaraderie.
