Zelenskyy Engages in Productive Talks with US Peace Negotiators

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described recent discussions with US negotiators as highly productive, focusing on new approaches to achieve peace in the ongoing conflict with Russia. Earlier this week, Zelenskyy unveiled a revised 20-point draft peace plan, which he indicated serves as a primary framework for concluding hostilities.

Details of the Peace Plan

This new draft simplifies an earlier 28-point proposal that had been presented in discussions with Russian officials. The original plan faced criticism for being perceived as disproportionately favorable to Moscow, as it included provisions for Ukraine to cede territory and implement restrictions on its military forces. While the 20-point draft aims to address those concerns, Zelenskyy acknowledged that several critical territorial issues remain unresolved. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Thursday, local time, that Moscow is currently reviewing the documents concerning the peace efforts. These documents were brought to Russia by special envoy Kirill Dmitriev, who returned from the United States after his discussions.

The White House has not yet responded to requests for comments regarding these developments. In the meantime, Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine’s chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, is scheduled to have additional conversations with US representatives later today.
