Indo-Australian Singer Siyer Breaks Ground with Grammy Nomination
Indo-Australian singer, composer, and performer Siyer has achieved a significant career milestone by being featured on the newly nominated Grammy album Shayan. This collaboration with acclaimed pianist and composer Charu Suri marks him as the first Indian-Australian artist to appear on a Grammy-nominated album. Siyer contributes his voice to “Inner Peace,” a tranquil piece rooted in Raga Desh, which beautifully intertwines Indian classical traditions with modern global influences.
The collaboration has been celebrated as a landmark moment for the Australian-Indian creative community. Reflecting on this achievement, Siyer stated, “Inner Peace represents the universal language of calm and connection. To bring that to life on a Grammy-nominated album is a true honour for me and for Australia’s growing Indian-heritage music scene. I am honoured that Charu asked me to be on this.”
Charu Suri’s Musical Impact
“Suri is known for her distinctive fusion of jazz, Indian ragas, and sacred themes.”
Now based in the United States, Charu Suri has garnered international acclaim for her innovative music, which resonates with spirituality and emotional depth. She made history as the first Indian-born artist to premiere original works at Carnegie Hall, performing to sold-out audiences multiple times. As an award-winning recording artist and Grammy-nominated composer, Suri continues to push the boundaries of music.
Siyer has been a Grammy voting member since 2023 and has been in official consideration for the Grammy Awards for four consecutive years, from 2022 to 2025, for his original work as a singer, composer, and lyricist. His notable album Rain of Bhakti, produced in collaboration with Grammy Award-winning producer P.A. Deepak, Indian-Australian musician Bobby Beebob, and Joshua Pereira, received a Silver Medal at the Global Music Awards. The album was praised for its seamless blend of devotion and contemporary artistry.
Siyer’s Global Presence
With over 600 live performances worldwide, Siyer has shared the stage with prominent figures in music such as Shankar Mahadevan, Udit Narayan, and Sadhna Sargam. His performances have included the Indian National Anthem at the Parliament of Victoria and appearances at major venues like the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). His work has also been featured in prestigious publications, including Rolling Stone Magazine.
The album Shayan is now available on all major streaming platforms, providing a platform for listeners to engage with this groundbreaking collaboration. The significance of Siyer’s achievement resonates beyond music, symbolizing the rich cultural exchange between Australia and India, and highlighting the growing influence of Indian heritage in the global music scene.
