Helicopters Transport Two Injured After Water Incident in Papatowai
Two individuals were injured in a water incident near the Tahakopa River outlet in the town of Papatowai, located in New Zealand’s South Island. Emergency services responded swiftly at approximately 3:15 PM on March 15, 2024, following reports of four people struggling in the water.
A comprehensive emergency response was initiated by Hato Hone St John, which dispatched one ambulance, one first response unit, an operations manager, and two rescue helicopters to the scene. The critical nature of the situation led to the immediate air transport of the two injured individuals to the hospital.
According to Acting Senior Sergeant Nathan White, one of the patients was reported to be in a serious condition, while the other sustained moderate injuries. The swift actions of the emergency teams were crucial in ensuring timely medical assistance for those affected.
