Bint Mohaather Triumphs in Qatar Oaks at Al Rayyan Racecourse
In a thrilling display on March 9, 2024, Bint Mohaather clinched victory in the Qatar Oaks, a prestigious race for three-year-old Thoroughbreds held at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club’s (QREC) Al Rayyan Racecourse. The bay filly, representing Al Jeryan Stud, marked her second consecutive win, showcasing her potential after several recent strong performances.
During the 2000-meter race, Bint Mohaather was initially positioned off the pace. As the race progressed, she executed a powerful move in the home stretch, taking the lead within the final 300 meters. Under the guidance of jockey Lukas Delozier and trainer MHK Al-Attiyah, she secured victory by a length. The race’s trophy was presented by Bader bin Mohammed Al-Darwish, QREC Acting CEO, to Ali bin Hamad Al-Attiyah on behalf of Al Jeryan Stud.
Impressive Wins for Wathnan Racing
The evening also saw Wathnan Racing achieving remarkable success. War Lady, a newcomer in the Local Thoroughbred Oaks for three-year-olds over 1850 meters, won decisively by 3.5 lengths. The bay filly, trained by Alban de Mieulle and ridden by Soufiane Saadi, maintained a strong position throughout the race before accelerating in the closing stages. This victory marks a consecutive title defense for her connections.
Another standout performance came from Chdia, who showcased her dominance in the Purebred Arabian Oaks for four-year-olds. The bay filly won by three lengths, marking her sixth victory in seven starts. Ridden by James Doyle, she completed a one-two finish for Wathnan Racing, with Intisar De Monlau coming in second. This success further solidifies her status as a top contender in the circuit.
Victories Across Categories
Wathnan Racing’s Shama’ah Bu Thaila also made an impressive debut by winning the Local Purebred Arabian Oaks for four-year-olds. After settling towards the rear of the pack, she executed a powerful late surge to claim victory by 1.25 lengths, under the guidance of jockey Faleh Bughenaim. This win marked a consecutive title retention for her connections, highlighting the team’s successful evening.
In the Purebred Arabian Oaks for three-year-olds, Dhariya, trained by Jean de Mieulle, successfully defended her title with a commanding performance over 1600 meters. The grey filly remained unbeaten in Qatar, finishing 1.75 lengths ahead of her competitors. The trophy was awarded to Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al-Mansour, Chief Operating Officer of Al Shaqab Racing, by Abdulla Rashid Al-Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager.
Finally, Grace Secret, representing Umm Al Shukhut Farm, returned to winning form in the Local Purebred Arabian Oaks for three-year-olds. Despite starting from the widest position, she demonstrated resilience and skill, finishing ahead by a neck. This victory marked her third overall win, maintaining a strong record across six starts. The trophy was presented to Ahmed Khalid Belal, owner of Umm Al Shukhut Farm, by QREC Acting CEO Al-Darwish.
The Qatar Oaks event was a testament to the impressive talent within the racing community, showcasing both emerging stars and established champions. As the season progresses, the performances from the evening will undoubtedly set the stage for future competitions.
