Hadi De Carrere surged to victory in the Umm Al Zubar Cup, a prestigious Purebred Arabian Open Allowance Race held on October 7, 2023, during the 31st Al Rayyan Race Meeting at Al Rayyan Racecourse in Doha. The gelding executed a determined late charge to secure the win in a dramatic finish.
Positioned well throughout the 1900-meter race, Hadi De Carrere was strategically prepped for a powerful effort as the race neared its conclusion. With a remarkable turn of speed, he closed the gap on the long-time leader, Salwa, and crossed the finish line just ahead, winning by a head.
Successful Partnership Shines
This victory highlighted the effective collaboration between trainer Gassim Al Ghazali and jockey Marco Casamento, who showcased their well-timed strategy throughout the event. Their synergy was particularly evident in the feature race, where they executed their plan with precision.
The trophies for the Umm Al Zubar Cup were presented by Rashid Saed Adiba, the Head of QREC Racing Operations Section, to the winning team. Earlier in the eight-race event, Sahm Al Bawadi delivered an impressive performance to win the Purebred Arabian Show Horses and Mares race, finishing ahead by a commanding 4.5 lengths.
Highlights from the Race Day
In the Thoroughbred Handicap, Super Mo asserted his dominance with a strong finish, winning by 2.5 lengths. The Local Thoroughbred Handicap (0-60) saw Mallhog take the lead early and maintain control, posting a decisive five-length victory.
Al-Yaseen Zakhir continued the successful streak for Ghazali and Casamento by winning the Local Purebred Arabian Handicap. In the Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate, Wahaas displayed remarkable resilience to secure a narrow victory by a neck, while Little Lips won the Thoroughbred Handicap (0-60).
The day’s opening race featured Tawfeeq, who celebrated his first win in the Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate, completing the 1700-meter race with a quarter-length margin. Overall, the event showcased thrilling performances and competitive spirit among the participating horses and riders.
