Hadi De Carrere Claims Thrilling Victory in Umm Al Zubar Cup
In a dramatic conclusion to the Umm Al Zubar Cup, Hadi De Carrere surged to victory at the 31st Al Rayyan Race Meeting held at Al Rayyan Racecourse in Doha on March 15, 2024. The gelding showcased remarkable stamina and speed, clinching the win in the final moments of the 1900-meter race.
Positioned strategically throughout the race, Hadi De Carrere was asked for his effort as the finish line approached. In a thrilling finale, he closed the gap on the long-time leader, Salwa, and crossed the line just ahead, winning by a narrow margin of a head.
Successful Collaboration Shines Through
This victory not only highlighted Hadi De Carrere’s talent but also marked a successful evening for trainer Gassim Al Ghazali and jockey Marco Casamento, who demonstrated excellent teamwork throughout the event. Their effective collaboration was evident as they executed a perfectly timed run in a highly competitive race.
Head of QREC Racing Operations Section Rashid Saed Adiba presented the Umm Al Zubar Cup trophies to the winning team.
Earlier in the event, Sahm Al Bawadi also impressed, taking top honors in the Purebred Arabian Show Horses and Mares race with a commanding victory by 4.5 lengths. The day’s excitement continued with other notable performances.
Highlights from the Day’s Races
The Thoroughbred Handicap went to Super Mo, who showcased late strength to secure victory by 2.5 lengths. In the Local Thoroughbred Handicap (0-60), Mallhog led from the start, finishing with a decisive five-length lead.
Continuing the successful streak for the Ghazali-Casamento partnership, Al-Yaseen Zakhir triumphed in the Local Purebred Arabian Handicap. The Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate saw Wahaas display determination, winning by a neck. Little Lips emerged victorious in the Thoroughbred Handicap (0-60).
The day’s racing began with Tawfeeq earning his first victory in the Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate, winning the 1700-meter race by a quarter of a length.
Overall, the 31st Al Rayyan Race Meeting proved to be an exciting day for both participants and spectators, highlighting the competitive spirit and talent present in the racing community.
