Sheikh Joaan’s Vision for Asian Sports
Sheikh Joaan, who also holds the position of Senior Vice President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), presented his vision titled “Together for Asia” to the assembled NOCs. His commitment focuses on several key areas:
- Strengthening solidarity and development throughout Asia.
- Supporting athletic excellence among member nations.
- Promoting good governance within the Council.
- Embracing innovation responsibly in sports.
- Ensuring that OCA events are sustainable, inclusive, and credible.
- Growing international representation to enhance Asia’s interests.

In his remarks, Sheikh Joaan emphasized the importance of diversity in Asia, stating, “Asia is the largest and most diverse continent within the Olympic family. This diversity is our greatest strength. But it also requires us to work in unity, guided by mutual respect and our shared commitment to the Olympic values. Through unity, we transform diversity into opportunity.” He called for collaboration to empower National Olympic Committees and create opportunities for youth to excel on a global stage.
Acknowledging Leadership and Transition
Sheikh Joaan will step into the presidency for the remainder of the term after the previous OCA President, Randhir Singh, resigned due to health reasons. In expressing gratitude for Singh’s contributions, Sheikh Joaan noted, “I wish to express my sincere appreciation to my dear friend His Excellency Mr. Raja Randhir Singh for his leadership, vision, and tireless efforts during challenging times.”
This election marks a significant moment for the OCA as it aims to enhance its role in the Olympic Movement and promote a unified approach to sports across Asia. Sheikh Joaan’s vision is expected to resonate well with member countries, fostering a collaborative environment that prioritizes both athletic achievement and good governance.
As the Olympic Council of Asia prepares for its future under new leadership, the focus remains firmly on creating a sustainable and inclusive framework that reflects the diverse needs of its member nations.
