Shahid Mamdani was officially sworn in as the Mayor of New York City on January 1, 2024, amidst a backdrop of enthusiastic supporters chanting “tax the rich.” His election last November marked a significant victory for the left-wing faction of the Democratic Party and is expected to shape the upcoming midterm elections that will determine control of the US Congress.
